In the Community

"Giving back to the community by preparing and cooking for the weekly free breakfast has been the greatest opportunity in my life. It is a privilege to give back of what I have taken so freely. It would be an honor to see you at our next breakfast."

-Don B.

Emmanuel values its strong ties to the surrounding community and participates in various local events. Each year we participate in the local Crop walk and in the past have sent a team to the Relay for Life campaign. Emmanuel is a popular venue for the Thornapple Arts Council Jazz Festival as well as for the Lakewood Choral Society.

Several community groups have found a home at Emmanuel. The local Kiwanis organization meets here as do various 4-H groups and the Thornapple Garden Club. Superheroes, a nondemoninational group of special needs young men, meets at Emmanuel as does Alcoholics Anonymous.

In 2012, we began our Saturday morning Community Breakfasts. A hot breakfast, coffee and friendship is served every Saturday morning from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in the Gury Parish House. Volunteers are encouraged to show up by 7:00 a.m. to set up. Clean up is usually finished by 10:00 a.m.
