VBS 2023 teaches hope, love, faith, joy and more!

We'll be meeting from 4:00-6:30 p.m. on July 10-13, 2023 to work with children doing crafts, science, music, skits, and snacks! Sara Boonstra will work with church volunteers to lead our groups as we combine worship and fun!

We had a very successful Creation Care Kids' Day Camp at Emmanuel in August 2022!

What: During the first week of August 11, 2022, children participated in Creation Care of the Earth as God's children, including a daily story from Scripture, learning actrivities in science, drama, music, art and a snack. Our goal was to introduce children to the riches of God as Creator and ourselves as stewards and caregivers of God's creation. We hope to increase the children's appreciation of and creative engagement with the natural world, worship and their gratitude to God for its beauty and wonder while learning some kid-appropriate actions to protect and preserve the earth (reduce, reuse, recycle) and having fun!

Our students learned about and participated in the following activities (and more!) this year:

  • Learning about the moon's phases and reflection of light
  • Pounding flowers into cloth to create naturally dyed art work
  • Constructing natural birdfeeders from peanutbutter, pinecones and bird seed
  • Observing how nature filters water by building their own water filter systems
  • Listening to many different instruments made from objects found in nature
  • Building their own animal creations from marshmallows, pretzles and raisins
  • Watching the funny antics in our drama productions of the bumbling Dr. Great Scott and his assistant Fritz
  • Singing songs to praise God and the world he so lovingly created for us
  • Dissecting owl pellets to learn more about what owls eat
  • Listening to poems and studying art works that celebrate nature
  • Learning more about our solar panels, compost heap and rainwater barrel and how these help us better use our resources from the earth
  • Kept science journals and learned to be nature observers
  • Listened to and learned by heart stories and words from the Bible that celebrate God's creation and love for us
